We are an avian exclusive specialty veterinary practice. Established in 1993 by Dr. Greg Burkett, Board Certified Avian Veterinarian, treating birds only. Dr. B has only worked with birds since his career began in 1993. He has experience in all areas aviculture. He started with a pair of cockatiels in 1979, which eventually lead to breeding more than 30 different species, and nearly 150 pairs. He has extensive experience with hand feeding baby birds and nursery management. He is an expert with specialty bird care, such as cage design and furnishing, nutrition, and handling. These and other skills were developed from self-taught tactics both in business and bird care by owning and operating a retail bird store established in 1992, a wholesale distribution for only bird supplies. Dr. B's medical and surgical expertise has been gathered with an education from NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine (1993 graduate), extensive continuing education, unmatched hands on experience, becoming board certified, and continual research to learn new things about birds and their care. The passion is written on his face and his compassion is palpable. There is no bird he won't treat and goes as far as is possible, and even beyond, by being unafraid to pioneer treatments and be open-minded to new idea and techniques. His philosophies are 'Do no harm', 'Eliminate pain and suffering - life is worth living, until it is not'.
